Just wondering if anybody has successfully achieved this. I'm not sure that the type of Camcorder (Panasonic NV-DS28) is important but it has an s-Video in/out and a DV port.

I want do get a bunch of old DV tapes transferred to the Mac.

Couple of query's I would have is firstly, is there a cable available to connect both and what is it?

On connection of both do I import into iPhoto or do I need special software?

    Many thanks in advance...

I'm not sure how it works with mac but I would have assumed if you plug the camcorder in the macs editing software would start up so you could capture off the camera.

These camera capture through the firewire port though not usb. You can see what the ports look like here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1394

Normally you would connect the camera to the Mac using a Firewire cable. This allows you to fully control the camera from the Macs Video Editor - iMovie.

Newer Macs have Firewire 800 ports which are physically different to the older Firewire 400 port so you will need to be sure you get the right cable to suit your Mac.

MacBook Pro's connection is either FireWire 400 or 800. Camcorders normally have a smaller Firewire connection. If your MBP has FW800, you an use a FW 400 camcorder cable with an adaptor. Currently doing it myself and it works fine.

You should have a verson of iMovie on your Mac which will allow you to edit your DV tapes.
