    First signs :

    1) Whistleng noise
    2) Dirty air filter.Your engine need air. When did you las time change your air filter ? Every 15 000 km.
    3) High oil consumption.Oil go trough the bearing of the turbo and burn in cilinders.Cars geting smooky.
    4) Oil in intercooler.Big job too check it.But.Small ammount of oil should be there but not more than that.
    5) EGR Valve.

Dont buy second hand turbo or new.Buy remanufactured.I use remanufactured for arround one year and dont have problems.Find good recomended car service. If your turbo is dead.Need clean all system from broken pieces.Change gaskets.Dont sell your car.Change turbo is not small job.But no waranty if you will buy another second hand you dont will have same problem again. Its just waste of money. You will loose money when you will sell you car.And you will loose money when you will buy another. And you will looose money for replace turbo if another car will have problem.Check your oil every 1000 km.No more then 0.5 liter per 1000 km.

Where could you get a reconditioned turbo, is there any crowds doing them? My Landcruiser has a whistling noise, but no other symptoms, no lack of power either. Its been that way for a year or more now!

You cant hear the noise of the turbo.I know diference now very well. When I replaced turbo,.When you will have white smoke from engine, when turbo will die.You will have replace and turbo and engine,.

You see. Many people change oil ( every 5000 km in used more than 4 years ) in car. When car is stops ! Ask your self, when did you last time check oil level, coolant level, brake fluid level ? Guys, you forgot Rules of the road !!!!! When did you last time turn radio or CD off and listen your car engine ? Prevention save your car not car manufacturers !

    To trixyben

Try kerosine (paraffin oil ) for home heating .Best is from North Ireland.Kerosine will clean your fuel system, tank, injectors.Same stuff in small botles sell motor factories.Best is Lucas in small botlles. Also in diesel ( some water in your fuel tank ) you have bacteria Fungus.

    http://www.debugamericalatina.com/bacteria-in-diesel.html

This bacteria block your fuel pipeline. Not much fuel go to the engine.

Try this only every 5000 km.Only 50x50.Or you will burn your engine injectors.Becouse paraffine oil does not have enough lubricants like diesel for your car cilinders.

The turbos give little or no trouble on the 1.8 TDDI engine. We have loads of them on our books, several with over 200k miles including our own garage van and I have yet to replace a turbo on one. Your problem will most likely be elsewhere.

have to agree with george we do hundreds of them and very rarely ever replaced a turbo usually egr/ or leaking intercooler hoses or faulty map sensors there the usual culprits

Jeekers - if his work is anything like his web site then I wouldn't hold out much prospect of a good outcome.

I've only seen about two turbos fail on these and only about two EGR valves. Very good engine except the flywheel which is a different story. Get a scan done.

The TDDI has a solid flywheel, unlike the troublesome dual mass in the TDCI version.

could be nothing wrong its just i think power from it is down and maybe wearing out, i had it plugged to diagnostic and no codes showed at all, i checked all recommended checks here and no signs off it gone or about to go, what i was thinking was do they lose a bit of performance after a while and need rebuilding to operate fully?

Turbo's don't just loose performance over time.

You may have a split in an intercooler pipe or something similar. The transit connects are very prone to this.
