Most motor factors will test your old battery, and will supply a replacement from stock if needed, if you're not too handy with the spanners they usually fit free of charge.

Sounds like the alternator isn't charging the battery. When you're driving, do you see a warning light with an image of a battery flashing or permanently lit on the dash?

no but to be honest when i bought it <sep 2010> that light used to be on the odd time for about two months but it hasnt been on in the last year or so

Well whatever the cause, your battery isn't getting charged and if it stays flat, it will deterioriate and be permaneltly damaged and you'll have to buy another one. Get someone to look at the alternator and get the battery charged.

Another new battery? How is that going to fix the problem?

The battery that you fitted three weeks ago, was that brand new and did you buy it yourself or did some mechanic tell you he had fitted a 'new' battery?

the same mechanic that put in the one three weeks ago put in this one.i saw him put in the one three weeks ago and i saw him opening the box so im 100% it was a new one.he said that the last battery could have been a faulty one

He's not big into problem solving then. He gets a customer who has a battery problem, installs a new battery, customer comes back in three weeks with the same problem so he says the (new) battery could be faulty!

I hope your doctor is better at diagnosing faults!
