I'm going to get a monitor to play ps3 on (I'll use a HDMI cable for the PS3) and I'd like to be able to watch TV from my UPC box as well. Is it possible to use a UPC box on a monitor and how?

    Thanks.

If it's the UPC HD version set-box with HDMI, it will work, as long as the Monitor does at 1920x1080p50 and has HDCP. Non-HD boxes will only work with Analogue video camera type feed Monitors (PAL, 625 lin3 25 fps interlace analogue only).

But Monitors are often poor TVs and vice versa as Monitors are ideally higher resolution than HD (1920x 1080) and Monitors often have 60fps as a minimum refresh speed. ALL TV is 25fps 50i, though a digital HD box can with a very small loss of quality convert to 50fps

You're better off buying a Saorview Approved "full" HD TV (under €500 for a 42" which is best value size for HD and PS3). Monitors are for PCs and laptops that can use higher resolutions and typically designed to be used at 30cm viewing distance. Game Console screen / TV screens need much further viewing distance 1.2m to 3m depending on size.

It doesn't save on a TV licence either.
