Loads of charity runs give out goodie bags & tshirts which the entry fee/sponsors cover. Is there any cycles/sportives that do this. And if not would people pay extra entry if the got a jersey?

The majority would give out something, the Tour of Waterford and the Rebel tour definitely give out jerseys and heap of other have t-shirts (which Captain Slow usually ends up getting an XXXL one because all the Ms have gone).

I liked the way they did it at the Giant's Causeway sportive last year. They gave a very nice technical T-Shirt with the goodie bag and you could purchase a jersey separately if you wanted.
To answer your question, I'd pay if the jersey was a nice one - or maybe if it was so ugly I wanted it for a laugh.

I think most regular cyclists on here would prefer no jerseys /goodie bags and lower entry fees to be honest.

As was posted earlier by all means give people an option to purchase said merchandise if required, thats a good idea

I would be inclined to agree with you. At least with a lower entry fee more people would take part in cycles.

Most of mine go in the bin, so no I would prefer not to get one as I just think its a bit of a waste.

I have enough jerseys from buying a few myself and those collected from about a dozen sportives. The tour de Cure this year gave out gilets as part of the goody bag and it was a welcome change, on the Tour de Burren last week they gave out decent back packs but you could purchase separately a TdB jersey if you wished.
Organizers should use a little more imagination, or simply ask prospective participants for suggestions as to what would be of most use.
