    From the Saorview website
New SAORVIEW Information DVD for Stores

    ‎04 ‎January ‎2012, ‏‎13:50:50 | amyo
If you are a registered SAORVIEW retailer, we’re about to make your job a little easier!

We have created a SAORVIEW information DVD for stores featuring Ryan Tubridy and TV3′s Colette Fitzpatrick. The DVD is three minutes long and plays on a loop. Ryan and Colette explain SAORVIEW in detail, the benefits, how it works and they tell customers what they need to do to make the switch.

This is a great source of information for customers. If you would like a copy of the DVD to play on screen in your store please e-mail us at trade@saorview.ie and we’ll get a copy out to you asap.

Saorview explained in detail in 3 mins :D, would love to see that. Hopefully someone will upload it to youtube.

I saw this on News Now just a few minutes ago,it made me feel angry enough to check out boards to see if anybody had posted about it.

My anger is that they are using Ryan and Coltte for the promo.
perhaps they were not paid for it and i doubt the saoirview Rep would be privvy to that.
if they were it is a disgrace IMO.

There are many out of work actors and unemployed people who have qualified in media studies who could have been given the gig.

Is RTE going to continue giving the same circle all the work?

They encourage no new talent and if the Late Late show continues to be as dire as last Fridays episode then it really should be put down once and for all.
it does not even seem to be aware of who its target audience is at this stage.

it needs familar figures to promote saorview

what is the point of using unknown figures
the middle aged and elderly need familar faces to know of saorview

Exactly, people need to listen to the information and will do so and connect to what is being said if they are familiar with the speaker

Hi ftakeith i disagree in a friendly way.thanks for reply.
i have a greatgrandmother and greatgrandaunt who are fully aware of the ASO.
anything they did not know has been explained to them by family members.
what is the point of using unknown figures

The point is allowing new blood on our TV screens,RTE is a D4 clique and that is not just my point of view.
ffs Mike Murphy and George Lee left RTE to pursue other matters even though Lee said he had no idea what job he would get it was written into their contracts that RTE would re-employ them even as a cleaner,in what other job would an employee get a chance to try something else and if it does not work out have a guarantee of a job?

i hope no new employee's of RTE are given that option again,it simply gives would be new broadcasters no chance.

I was a little sceptical initially how they might explain Saorview in 3 mins. when I read about the DVD for stores about a week ago.

It's OK and much better than the Tommy and PJ ads running since last March. They should have included a close-up of a UHF aerial, some people are still confused regarding aerial/dish requirements for Saorview.

I agree with ftakeith/JustAddWater, well known faces fronting the campaign may catch peoples attention as the clever "Going Digital" ad with Gaybo has. I wonder if there will be an Irish language version fronted by TG4 personality?

An elderly person isn't going to know or care for what "new blood" is saying in something like this. You need to realise this.

Ideally this sort of stuff - and ONLY this sort of stuff tbh - is what they should be using the likes of Gay Byrne and Mike Murphy for. And they are using Gaybo for other parts of the campaign.

No i do not and to underestimate the elderly who have no loss of brain function is ageist.
ageism is akin to to any ism, many elderly have seen it all, and are far wiser than young people

The Gaybo add is very clever i agree, but again i would say Turbity is adding money to his very generous salary that could be going to fresh face's.
like i said i could be doing him an injustice if he is not being paid for it.

Slightly ageist theme to this thread. They will be plenty of people both young and old who won't know what to do. The back of the tv is unknown territory for a lot of people.

I remember a few year back when one of my then flatmates knocked some cables out of the tv when hoovering. I wasn'tt there at the time and because no one could get the thing working again and I had to provide instructions over the phone on which cable went where.

Anyway back to the youtube clip........... Overall, its a very informative video, but I feel that someone dropped the ball at 2:50.

TV connection from saorview box via scart to AV1 is shown and there is just a screen caption mentioning HDMI.

What about all the MPEG2 tvs that have been sold with HDMI ? I can see some people connecting via scart even though their tv may have HDMI.

All a bit silly really. Ten more seconds could have clarified that.

Sorry for going off topic, but Colette Fitzpatrick is cracker!

Now back on topic..., she can mount her UHF aerial on my pole any day!:D

Showed the Video to my Dad and it's making sense to him.

The whole, The Telly is not gonna work and 'Digital is comming' is gonna scare people, they should really explain what 'Digital' is. People who are not in the know kinda assume that Digital is a completly different set up, the amount of people that have commented saying "Great, we can take the aerial down when Digtial comes" is beyond funny.

Have to agree with the people who think that the aerial is redundant once "digital" is here. A lot of people seem to think it.

Some go the extra step and expect the Beebs, ITV, C4, etc on it too. Cue frowns when they're informed in the negative!:)

watty has all that sewn up for the Saorsat promo,Colette will be demonstrating how to fit a Dishy thingy climbing a ladder wearing a short skirt to fit a dish with a quad LNB to receive 9% :),
watty will be just below her ready to give her a tool!:D

    Watty is your dad?:)

how on earth is saorsat going to be put across i wonder?

the video cannot come soon enough lol.

Good video, no nonsense or jargon on it, for me it explains everything fine and how people can say after watching it that they no longer need an aerial i'll never know as they clearly say to plug your existing aerial into the saorview box!

But as we see from posts here some people aren't sure what their TV point is connected to, in many cases it's a UPC point or an apartment block cable provider and to add to their confusion the internal cabling may be picking up an OK to intermittant Saorview signal.

There are many references to an aerial in the video but only one small picture of an ugly cluster of aerials on a chimney. The video should have included a better picture of a selection of common UHF aerials near the beginning of the video e.g. where Colette says "if your TV signal comes thru an aerial ..." (approx 14 sec in), they could have added "like one of these aerials installed on your roof/outside or in your attic.

Let us begin with a brief discussion of Shannon's theorem... :D

Really, the average punter doensn't need to know, apart from the 'more channels, better picture*, better sound, better text' message they get already.

*Caveats apply, SD picture may not be better than a perfect analogue signal... and the more channels are mostly going to be just repeats and crap for the foreseeable future.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Of course the "real" reason in Ireland is to make money for Government flogging of Spectrum. There is not the money for the "more channels".

Meanwhile RTE has to fund this "Digital Dividend" bonanza for Dept of Finance by €70M+ and get nothing extra in return other than long term savings on Transmitter Electricity.

TV3 (extra 20 percentage points coverage) and Dept of Finance (revenue from Mobile licence) do best out of it.

If people want more channels for free they need Freesat. Really Saorview apart from occasional HD on RTE2 and "real" widescreen hasn't much extra. It's just a replacement of Analogue. Mind you we probably should have done it 5 years ago.

They also forgot to mention that one needs to connect a HDMI cable from a full HD tv to a Saorview box's HDMI out port/socket in order to view RTE TWO HD or any future HD services in glorious HD, otherwise one needs a Full HD Saorview approved IDTV. :D They just mentioned connecting the box by scart to a tv. They probably meant that statement for when using old CRT televisions. :D
