perimetre insulation

    Hello,
    When installing edge insulation strip is it best to leave it high and cut off the excess when the screed is dry, just in case the levels are a bit off?

    No, it is usual to cut it a couple of mm short to allow the screed to be levelled with the float screed on the leaf behind the edge insulation.

    Thinking of going with a liquid self leveling screed so there won't be much floating

    Did the same myself. I found a pad saw the business for cutting the excess afterwards.

    Is there any need of putting perimetre insulation around the first floor, I have 25mm around the ground floor (external walls) but wondering is it any benifit upstairs.

    no, not really.... your wall insulation is a continuous layer at this point...

    at the floor it stops and creates a thermal bridge.
