Adult Incognito Braces

I'm a mid-30s male and after years of living with crowded teeth have finally decided to get braces and am currently looking at my options. I'm looking at getting lingual Incognito braces so am in the process of getting as many consultations with orthodontists who specialise with these types of braces and would like to hear feedback from any other adults who've had them.

So far I've been to two orthodontists and have a third consultation next week.

My malocclusion is Class I on one side and Class II Division 1 on the other side.

Orthodontist 1 said I would be suitable for Incognito braces but would have to have 4 premolar teeth extracted (2 top, 2 bottom). My teeth are in very good condition so I'm not very keen on having healthy teeth extracted if at all possible especially when my bottom teeth are actually not too crowded at all. Treatment time would be 18-24 months.

Orthodontist 2 again said I would be suitable for Incognito braces but would probably have to remove 2 premolars on the top only. This is preferable to getting 4 removed and because my teeth are mostly crowded on the top I'm resigned to losing a couple of teeth there and can live with this as my profile is good. Treatment time would again be 18-24 months but would cost less with this orthodontist which is bonus and he seemed to have much more experience with Incognito braces too.

It would be great to hear opinions from other adults who've had these braces and how they got on with them.

    Hi there

you wont regret having the treatment, take a look at the adult braces thread.

I canot give an opinion about which treatment is more appropriate, 2 or 4 extractions. different orthodontists will have different opinions and plans. Just make sure it is a specialist orthodontist and look uop www.orthodontics.ie

For lingual braces they should work the same as the normal braces but will cost a lot more and will affect your speech. This can last anything from 2 weeks to 2 months so be ready for it. They also can irritate your tongue a lot.

you seem to be doing your homework but I wouldnt make your choice based on price alone. go on how what a friend might say and how you feel you were treated at the appointment.
