Mechanic to inspect potential purchase

I`m looking to view a number of cars in the next week, but I`m not so knowledgeable about them, so I`d like to find a mechanic to check out whichever car I like most and intend to buy.
I`ll be following Limerick Man`s excellent sticky for the phone call and inspection myself, but after I decide on a car, I`d like it to be looked at by someone qualified.
What is the best way to do this? Bring a mechanic with me on the 2nd viewing to see the car before I buy? Or bring the car to a nearby mechanic shortly after the first viewing if I like it? What kind of notice would a mechanic or garage need to accommodate either request, and what kind of money do they charge?
The cars all cost under a grand, and are based in Inchicore, Glasnevin and other Dublin city locations.

I sold a car recently to a chap that brought a mobile mechanic to take a look at it. I think it cost €70

You certainly have the right idea, check yourself to see if the car is a lemon, if it looks ok to you then pass it over to the professional. Don't bother getting a mechanic unless you are going to make an offer on the car, that's just a waste of money

The AA do this as well, more than €70 I'd say though.

Yep the AA do it alright, but I paid 300e for the inspection, road test, full uk and Irish history.

Huge money, but got a grand off the price cuse of the work that the AA highlighted and needed to be done. Well worth it if you are serious about the purchase.

    Still very pricy though!
