Win7 workgroup problem

I'm trying to connect a win7 machine to a workgroup. I have successfully connected to the workgroup but it's not showing the list of computers on the network and I can't figure out why.

The workgroup name is the same, I've duplicated the advanced sharing settings from another Win7 machine on the network and the PC can see the shared media device from the other PC but not the PC itself. I can ping all the PCs on the network and find all the printers on the network when I search for them in device manager.

It is on the network it's just not listing the PCs (even though it seems to know they are there) so that I can link files and get access to a database.

are all the computers on the network plugged into the same router?

mine at home wont show one pc cos it is connected via wifi but all the hardwired ones show just fine.

Ya, they're all plugged into the same Dell powerconnect switch.

are both machines using the same exact machine name? they need to be different example i call mine pc-1, pc-2, pc-3 pc,4, Laptop-1 and fileserver

in my case the laptop and pc-3 dont show in the list (laptop i can understand cos its very old and uses xp, thus not setup properly due to it being very old and both connects wirelessly)

Yup, all machines have unique names. There are 3 win7 machines on this network with the rest being WinXP. this one Win7 machine is just not showing up on other PCs or able to see other machines.

Also I'm using the work network option in Win7 network and sharing centre.

Have you turned on network discovery on the pc?

Yup, discovery is on. Everything under advanced settings is in the top on position radio button (the same as on the other Win7 machine that has no problems with the network). I've tried setting the encryption down to 40 or 56bit but that made no difference either.

I've tried right clicking in my computer to add a network location and it can't find anything outside it's own locally shared folders.

While this machine can ping any computer on the network when I try to ping this machine from one of the other PCs it times out?

Kaspersky anti hacker had the network mode set to stealth.
