Adaptor to let you use your physical carts and controllers with an emulator.

I'm struggling to see the value of this device, unless you're really really against downloading roms and insist on using the original controller then maybe but...

For playing games it's pretty pointless.

For dumping proto/sample carts and cart saves before batteries die it's priceless.

Up until this you had to use ancient floppy/serial port based dumping devices. This makes the whole process a hell of a lot easier.

Nintendo’s SA-1 and S-DD1 and Sega’s Virtua Processor, sit between console and ROM/RAM chips and act as sort of a copy protection mechanism. Game cartridges featuring these chips are currently not supported.

Nice device, but that irks me.

I can see its merit for traders who don't have access to the original machinery in which to test carts on, but at the price they're flogging'em for,
you could very easily pick up both of the original systems anyways.

With the exception of dumping carts, it's utterly pointless. Emulators are more compatible than original hardware, running a lot of homebrew games that don't run on real consoles so I don't buy the 'legit traders' point.

It's a device for running original carts, on unoriginal hardware, it's as in-authentic as using roms at the end of the day.

That's accuracy, I'm talking about inaccuracy in that they run things a real console won't.

Nope, Toms Hardware had the article I read.

At this stage is there many carts not dumped I wonder, every rom image you'd find online typically contains a whole heap of different revisions..

There are crap loads of undumped carts out there. And there are always new ones turning up.

Even if there weren't it's also useful for dumping your cart save files. Never worry about those precious Chrono Trigger saves etc being lost when the battery dies?

I'd say you could also import save files from a cart into an emulator. Must give that a go when my one arrives.

I don't think it's really worth the price, but it is a really valuable tool. So I gave in in the end.

Going to wait to play Zero Tolerance on the real deal again, emulators just aint the same!
