Linux Mint & DuckDuckGo

I installed Mint 12 recently and they are using DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. Has anyone else been trying it?

The obvious selling point is that they don't keep track of you, and each search should return the same results no matter who/where you are.

I found the functions they have are great. I can specifically search google/yahoo/wikipedia/amazon and much more by using their "Bangs". So to search wikipedia you type "!w Mozart", and so on for numerous other websites.

Yet - I have to say that using the DuckDuckGo search engine, yields poor results. I find myself using the !y or !g bangs to use the Yahoo and Google search engines.

I use the Chromium default search engine a LOT (i.e. searching directly from the address bar) I changed to to DDG a few days ago, but I don't see that lasting there much longer.

The jury is still out on DDG. Be interesting to hear anyone else's opinion.

ya i have used it, Duck Duck Go + Google Suggest Search Plugin is even better !!

still tho, as much as I like the concept of it, i do find myself using !g or !gie alot !! :D

bang commands are awesome, there is a command for nearly any site you can think of: "ubuntu 11.10 !tpb " will search the pirate bay etc !!

The main idea is Mint is the search returns results and some revenue for the Mint project which is good. But genrally the first thing I do in any distro is add both adblock and add to search bar to the add ons. Add to search bar allows you to click a search engine input box and add to your list of search engines. Then I set google.ie as my main search engine. But that's just me. Although I do think a search engine that doesn't taylor results to it's own ends quite appealing so I may also add it to my list and try it.
