New or old model as both were available in that year?

Stretching timing chains were a problem on the earlier one. Dont know about 08 > model.

New model has a different engine to the old model.

The DTEC diesel engine so far seems to be proving very reliable, no major issues reported. A bit disappointing having only 150bhp from a 2.2 litre engine though.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Seem to be overpriced for what you are getting. Maybe you should aim a little bit higher and get a class leading diesel like a BMW 520d?

I had an 04 accord diesel a few years back.. loved it and found it very reliable, only needing brake pads and brake discs and oil changes in the three years ownership.

Although the 08 accord only has 150BHP from a 2.2 engine its a very reliable engine and has topped the reliability charts for a few years now.

You could get someone reputable enough to remap it to 200bhp..

I had a 09 old model which I really liked, getting 46mpg out of it. I bought a new 11 reg last year and I'm getting between 53 and 55mpg out of it. Really nice car but (as with last model) not great leg room if you are very tall and very difficult to get in and out of the back.

I've got a 8th Gen 2008 Exec Accord, really happy with it.

    On the plus side:
Great comfort, fully loaded with Heated Seats, integrated GPS etc
    Well laid out driver controls
    Reliable (touch wood)
    Looks good
Super driving but does not have petrol acceleration. Might be different after remap.

    Down side
Car does not come with spare tire or space saver. Done for emissions so had to purchase space saver.
Get 46 MPG on country driving and 44 on traffic and no where near 50.
2008 Honda on class C emissions 330 yo yos. I believe the new ones r either Class A or B

On time service with Honda parts essential.

For me 9 out of 10

Change the record will ya. Not everyone wants a BMW. And the 520d is becoming the new Passat. The country is full of them.

But the timing chains have a lifetime guarantee with Honda....

Provided the car was serviced by Honda or Honda genuine parts were used for servicing

Got the 2008 old shape last Oct. Nice car. Finding it a bit heavy on diesel. 39mpg in urban driving and up to 53mpg on long hall (100kmp and cruise control on). But I guess coming from a 406 peugeot any car will seem heavy on diesel anyway. Most of my drving is short runs.

Also seems to drain the battery if the radio is left on for 5mins. Put in a new battery at the weekend so we will see how it goes.

Local garage told me their was a recall on the clutch cylinder too and they are cheking to see was this done on my car. Has any 1 got this replaced?

But other than a few small things it seems a fine car.

Has anyone had any other problems a man should keep an eye out for?

Welcome to the world of accord. I'm not sure regarding the recall of the clutch cylinder but you could contact your local honda dealer with your VIN number and they should be able to tell you fairly quickly if you need a recall or not. If yes then Honda should cover the costs of replacement parts and labour.

The other thing to do with the Accord is ensure they are serviced with genuine honda parts and most importantly with the correct grade of engine oil (fully Synthetic 0w-30)

Also a good site for Honda Accord discussion and advice is http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/

    Happy motoring

    Thanks Deno,

Have the local garage on the case with the clutch so should know in the next few days.

Got advised on the Synthetic oil when buying off the local garage. The next questions is is it heavy on parts or is it just the usual filters and bits at service?
