I see alot of chancers, I call some out on their statements and prices, am I right or wrong? Im tryin to protect others from being taken advantage of, sometimes I wonder why I bother

one young lad I gave alot of racing related advice to and saved him a few bob but he just put together the bike and is now trying to flog it, I know he paid alot less for the parts because Im constantly looking thru all the big websites,( Ive a little OCD so will look at practically everything thats there and check for updates.)
the carbon forks were on sale half price, the frame was less than half price*, basically the cost of parts he is saying he paid is grossly inflated. I know he'll never sell it so I havent commented on the ad but its just a bit wrong I think.

I once saw a lad listing tyres in different colours, he would order them from CRC and add 30% on to the price.

*(Im 99% sure on this one)

There's absolutely nothing wrong with trying to make a few quid, if someone is ordering off CRC and selling it for a profit, then fair play to them. You'll see the Cycle Super Store Wednesday stuff floating around a bit also.

Where I would take issue is if someone says I paid €50 when they paid €25, I don't lie to people when I'm selling (I'm a salesman), it would be acceptable to say it's worth €50, IMO.

If you know for a fact that there is a lie on the ad then I don't see why you shouldn't call someone out on it (or report the ad, whatever the rules are).

The whole "I paid X for it" thing is irrelevant in an ad. The only comparison should be against other new or used stuff that's currently available.

A couple of years ago I sold a nearly new Tricross singlespeed on here for about what I paid for it (I only paid £292 - Christmas 2008 had some great sales on). It was a bargain to me, and a bargain to whoever I sold it to.

You'd never make money selling bikes built from new parts.

This one is fascinating me .... if someone is getting a genuine new Pinarello Prince for €1100 it's the bargain of the year!!

When it looks to good to be true then it is...There are obvious and not so obvious scams!

Let the buyer beware! But in the above case I would stay a million miles away...

Just to remind people that here is not the place to question the honesty of a seller. If you feel an item on adverts is a scam or a fake, report it to the adverts mods.

To be clear, talking about whether something is overpriced etc. is fine. Accusing someone of fraud isn't.
