Gas Fire Vs Boiler

Could anyone tell me would it would be cheaper to use a gas fire 6.8kw to heat a room rather than have a boiler on @ around 1/2 power, 24kw high efficiency boiler with a number of TVR's and a few rads switched off. Anyway of working out how much gas each one uses?
