Buyer lying that zip is broken

I sold a skirt on ebay which was in perfect condition when I packaged it- tags still on, and literally unworn. I then received an email yesterday from the buyer saying that the zip was broken and that she wanted her money refunded and threatened to leave bad feedback. I *know* it couldn't possibly be broken but said that I would give her a full refund if she could email me a picture showing the broken zip. She then said that she had just thrown the skirt in the bin and "might not be able to retrieve it" ... what do I do?! I just feel like I've quite obviously been scammed and I'll still get bad feedback either way. Is there any way to rectify this? Many thanks for any help!

Any refund should be dependant on the buyer returning the item in the original condition (and Ebay will require the same).

Sounds a bit weird. Why didn't she return the skirt if the zip was really broken!
No retailer lets you keep the faulty item.

Oh thank fook! It really didn't make any sense to me either-- so glad that it's actually necessary for them to return the item! thanks a mill guys!

If the buyer is threatening to leave bad feedback and you can prove this eBay will remove it.

An update: The buyer has just opened a case against me stating that the item doesn't match the description so I have 'agreed to issue a full refund when the item is delivered to you.' I just hope she doesn't try to drag it out of the bin (if it was ever there to begin with), break it and send it back to me just to get some money :S Still waiting on her response... I highly doubt she'll accept this, as she was originally irate at the thought of me asking for the goods back before I refund her

Keep the email where she said she threw it in the bin. In fact, use that as a reason to refuse the return. She has told you that she hasn't taken care of the item, so you should refuse to accept a return.

She mentioned throwing it in the bin in her original claim, so hopefully they'll see the ridiculousness of the situation and tell her where to go, ahhh!

They may not see anything. Highlight this, and refuse to accept a refund. If you don't, then it's quite likely that you'll receive a torn and soiled dress back, and have to give a full refund for it.

Oh crap :S I've already offered a refund (under the pretext that it would be in its original condition, but not sure if this note was actually attached when I clicked it...)

Once the buyer mentioned throwing the item in the bin, its surely a scam to aquire a perfectly good item for free. Any buyer would realise a faulty item would need to be returned for a refund.

As said, make sure you keep the email about the item being binned.

What was the buyers feedback score?

The money she gave me is currently being held while they review the case... ahhh...
She's got a score of 99.6% which I really can't understand! She has yet to answer my offer to 'return' it, but seeing as there is no skirt to return (apparently) since she began the case by stating that she threw the faulty skirt in the bin, I really don't see where this could go :S

Only someone severely lacking in the common sense dept would throw a faulty item out in the process of looking for a refund.
