Omar Little arrested in Baltimore

A man in Baltimore was arrested on a handgun charge. His name? Omar Little.
Omar coming! In a ridiculously specific example of life imitating art, a man with the exact same name of The Wire's Omar Little has been arrested in the show's setting of Baltimore.

The story itself concerns a 19-year-old, Omar Little, who was arrested over the weekend on a handgun charge. As fans of The Wire will note, that's the exact same name as the show's iconic stick-up man, a character which fan of the show Barack Obama stated had been his favourite during the HBO show's run.

The real life Omar is Omar Little Jr, whose father, Omar Little Sr, appears to have a criminal record that stretches back to the 1990s and includes several drug arrests. Omar Jr is currently being held on a $350,000 bond, with the handgun charge being his first arrest.

Sadly, we don't have any further information on the nature of Omar Little Jr's arrest, but we really wish that we did. Why did he opt for a handgun instead of the character's trademark shotgun? Did he begin whistling and shouting "I'm comin', yo?"

Already the actor that played Omar, Michael K Williams, has been alerted to the incident, having retweeted a fan's link to a news report on the story on Twitter. He then sent out a succint tweet afterwards to the tweeter, which read: "Life imitates art huh".In the words of the fictional Omar, "Indeed".

Here's the Tweet that Michael sent out.

This is already a contender for story of the year in my view. How ridiculously coincidental is it? Ha ha ha

Also it's worth checking out his Twitter account. Every so often he throws in a "no doubt" comment or other trademark Omar sayings.

    Indeed!

Maybe Omar Little in the show is named after Omar Little Sr in the article, the show writer was an ex Baltimore Cop and Omar Little Sr appears to have a criminal record.

I highly doubt it. I sure I remember David Simon stating that Omar was an amalgamation of a few different characters that he met over the years.

It's just one of those really, really unfortunate coincidents.
