Unsure whether to post here or in the terrestrial forum but I am looking for a small screen (21" or so) to be used as a 2nd television in the house that will also be connected up to a spare pc. It will probably get equal use as both but the PC is fairly old so no major resolution is required. Ideally to have built in saorview box to save space.
Anyone seen thins kind of screen around? Am I looking for a monitor or a television?

There are a huge range of TV's that would suit your requirements. Assuming by old you mean the PC doesn't have a HDMI/DVI connection for the video output then you will need a TV with a 15 Pin DSUB VGA socket.

It shouldn't be too difficult to find something suitable by just walking around Currys, HN, DID or power City and looking for that feature !

A word of warning though. Most TVs that are HD Ready will have a native resolution of 1366 x 768. For older video cards this will be an alien setting so you may need to settle on 1280x768 or WXVGA. In fact in my experience the TV will scale this up to the full 1366x768 making text a bit fuzzy. Bear in mind that a computer monitor of that size would have a resolution of about 1680x1050. So using the TV for anything other than games or web could be quite uncomfortable.

Some examples of 21/22" TVs with VGA input are :

Toshiba 22EL833B Sold in Power City.

Samsung LE22D450 22" (Check Saorview compliance)

The specs for these TVs merely say "PC Input" so check that this in fact a connection that suits your PC. In most cases this means a 15 pin VGA connection but not always.

Thanks for that, the PC does have a DVI output but has VGA also. So I'm pretty much looking for a TV that has either of these as an input as opposed to a monitor that is compatible with saorview?

In that case then any TV with a HDMI input will do. You'll need a DVI<>HDMI adaptor or cable.

I am in the market for one also but want to use it initially as Monitor and also for games then later on as TV

    Was looking at the below

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE32C450-32-inch-Widescreen-Ready/dp/tech-data/B003DNSJAO/ref=de_a_smtd

My desktop does not have a HDMI connection so would need a VGA is a PC In (D-sub) the same?

Any other recommendations(same size 32") as doing the rounds at the mo DID, Power City, etc also checking online

    Cheers

Yes the PC In on that TV is a 15 pin VGA connector but heed the warning above about using a TV of that size for a compuer monitor ! The dot pitch on LCD TVs is quite large making text fuzzy, especially if the TV scales up your computers resolution to full screen. Then again maybe your video card on the PC will know what to do when it sees the TV connected to it, without knowing the video card it's hard to advise.

Is it possible to upgrade the video card in the PC to one with HDMI perhaps ? These can be bought from as little as 60 euro nowadays. Either way you will most likely need a seperate audio connection.

Just FYI, I'm using the LG M245OD as a TV and PC Monitor (bought it here) http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-M2450D-Widescreen-1080p-Monitor/dp/B0052SO7DG/ref=sr_1_1s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330379206&sr=1-1

Works well with Saorview it's not certified but it does pick up all Channels, EPG and Teletext. Picture quality acceptable at this price Stg £205.50 sound quality poor but set can be connected to separate speakers has good range of connections including Hdmi, optical audio, component, scart, DVI, RGB (PC) etc.
    Full HD too.

    Hope that helps.
