Organizing a sponsored cycle

    Hello all,

Firstly apologies - I know this has been discussed before. I have searched and can't find the threads I read here a while back. Basically trying to organize a sponsored cycle and wondering what is involved. The school I'll be doing it with often does sponsored walks, but I'd like to do something a bit different.

Does anyone have maybe a checklist of what would be needed? Do we need to tell the gardaí and get the road closed (hopefully not). What kind of roads would be best to get it on. How many rescue vehicles would you usually have? Is a mechanic needed on the day? I did a long cycle once and they had mechanics on hand all day.

Any help at all would be great, cheers!

Good luck Dory. Great idea but you will be so relieved when the last rider is accross the finish line particuarly if kids are involved. Start with insurance, You then need Gardai, Ambulance, Experienced Motorcycle outriders, Marshalls at every junction. Signage, Refreshments. the list is endless. Regarding the charity if you don't get a firm committment of support before and on the day from the school, don't bother doing it. at all. Take care.

I would second that with the commitment from the school, Local school let us down twice recently with the "weather dependent" clause.

Thanks. I'll be doing it as part of a school. I'm a teacher and it'd be my students doing it with me, and their friends and family. I don't know where I'd begin with things like insurance. It might just be easier to climb a mountain. Or just a few of us cycling without making it a big thing. Thanks again
