Howdy folks, been trying to sort this for the past week with no joy, hopefully i'll be able to get some info off your collective minds :)

I'll throw up the spec first to give some insight.
    • Motherboard - Asus p5n32 E-SLI
    • CPU - Can't actually remember off hand but it's a Intel Duel core, stock 2.4gHz but overclocked to 3.4gHz i think, quite possibly been reset to the 2.4
    • RAM - Two 1gb Sticks of Corsair DDR2 800mhz and two 1gb Sticks from Geil of similar spec.
    • Brand new Corsair GS800 PSU.
    • ASUS sound card who's product ID escapes me, new enough
    • Radeon 1gb HD 5850.
    • Two Disk drives, one Western Digital 250gb and one hitachi 1TB

Anyway the problem is when I switch it on the fan's whirl, LED's come on, Disc tray works and everything seems to be going fine, but the monitor states it has no signal and the pc doesn't pick up the keyboard or network adaptors. It'd stay like this for ever.

I had this problem before when adding the new RAM, I changed around the seating arrangement and it did the job.

    So far this time I have;
    • reset CSOM
    • reseated RAM, Video card, sound card, and HDD's.
    • Tried all RAM sticks individually in different slots.
    • Changed the lithium battery on the motherboard.
    • Powered with just the video.
    • Powered without HDDs.
    • Tried just one HDD.
    • Somehow manged to fix the front fan which has been broken for months...
    • Tried and old Video card.
    • Cried.

I even bought a new PSU thinking that was the problem, it had been giving me trouble before but alas it was not so. I used to have a Nivida 8800gts and Saw the 5850 on some ridiculous deal somewhere so tried it out. Since installing that booting has been slower, in the sense of the screen would stay black for about a minute before BIOS kicks in. Where as now I can't even reach BIOS.

I'm pretty sure it's the motherboard. I've read a few similar problems with Asus boards. Also it's not the monitor.

I've been half planning to upgrade and if I can't get this i suppose it's forced my hand. I've been eyeing up a z68 and i5 2500k for a few weeks now.

Are you sure that both power plugs on the Video card are being used? Many high end cards need 2xPCIe power, but from looking at your diagnosis I would be thinking the fault lies with the motherboard, no harm in double checking the GPU is getting adequate power

It would seem everything's connected up correctly. I tried the 8800 which takes 100 watts less and only need one PCIE connection and still same problem, also the new PSU has a bit more kick than the old one.

I disconnected the video card and powered it up, the motherboard gave out it's continuous beep as it should. Which is why I didn't write it off straight away.

    Thanks for the reply :)

I bought it overclocked 5 years ago, perhaps it wasn't 3.4 sorry. I think it had reset itself a while back anyway.

Even still overclocking does limit the life of hardware, and it may take years for the chip to just burn out,

Have you tried it with another monitor?
