Pretty much a stretched s60. Great value.

I know two guys with s80's... both had them for 5+ years.. maybe more. Maybe that's due to the vertical depreciation.. or because they really like them!

Lots of spec, but only expect mid 20's mpg. Maybe 35 on a motorway, but for sure 20-ish around town.

If you found a one owner car I susepct you'd get a bargain that's been loved from new given the type of people who buy them.

    hi

I would recommend an s80 as my wife is on her 2nd one ( 2004) and packed full of goodies. Only have had to replace a window regulator in 4 years and having the automatic version with heated leather seats make it a real nice place to be.

petrol consumption for mixed driving has been 8.5 litre/100kph or motorway 7.8 litre/100kph

all in all a great car to be had at very very little cost.

go ahead and take the plunge

Great car--Im chasing a 2001-one owner-full history from new for under a grand at the minute.

    Things to watch for.

Autobox needs a drain/clean/refill every 100k--Expensive job as the oil (genuine) is 20 euros a litre and needs about 12 litres to do the job right.

Sold a few Turbos for them mostly due to poor servicing-Check that the throttle body is a Bosch and not Magnetti Marelli--Marelli ones pack up all the time and are about 800+ to replace.

Other than these theyre bullet proof.Heavy on juice though but you get a lot of car for your money.

Very comfortable car, generally nice spec (nice stereo with steering controls, dual zone climate control, self dimming rear view mirrors, cup holders all over the gaff) and very comfortable seats, even the rear ones are nice and comfy. Performs well in crash tests as well. It's no e39 but handles OK for its size. 04-05 is a good year to get. 99-03 probably avoid, certainly the '99 and '00s (I say this as a '99 T6 owner!) due to some CAN bus/electronic niggles and issues with electronic throttle bodies. Like I say though 04 onwards are a good buy. Turbodiesel D5 might be a better option if economy is a concern. If not, get a T6 from the UK :D. Pretty torquey motor that pulls a lot better that you might think from the paper stats. Easy to breeze over 160KPH without noticing it, apparently.

Test a couple of cars in this group and see what you think. BMW e39 (AKA 5 series), E class Merc, Jag XJ.

Late 01 onwards was when they fixed the problems with the throttle bodies. You know by the make of it.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Family member has an '02 that he's had for about 5 years. No trouble at all. Older ones are great value for money. Comfortable, automatic, most are leather with some toys. Not much of a drivers car though.

Good find! Lots and lots of car for the money. And let's not forget these cars have reasonable poke too from their 5-cylinder turbocharged engines. 180BHP iirc. And still the relatively low 2l tax and very low insurance (owners are typically low risk drivers)

Had a 03 S60 2.0T petrol, lovely car to drive BUT......

in my car there was no mute terminal on the Volvo radio, assuming they haven't changed this in the meantime it means that unless the car has a factory fitted car kit, you will not be able to install a phone kit that can mute the radio on an incoming call and if the car already has an aftermarket phone kit, it probably can't mute the radio either, test it before buying.

If you're on the road a lot and using the phone this can be a major problem, be aware of it.
