Travelling to the continent for Dental work?

Not sure if this is where this thread belongs but I have a few questions.

Has anyone here every travelled to the continent for dental work?
If so, where, how much were the savings, what were the results and how happy were you with the service?

My GF needs to get two crowns, she doesn't want procelin crowns (€700 each) as they will need replacing in 7-8 years and has decided to go the more expensive option, which will cost her €1950 in total.

I was thinking, at that price, it might be worth either going over the border or flying to the continent as I think she could save quite a bit of money this way?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers, Seán.

Statistically, the average lifespan of a crown, any crown, is 10-15 years.
Things like bite/occlusion, cosmetics, gums (disease, recession), oral hygiene(daily flossing a must), maintenance(regular routine checkups& cleanings), quality of the restoration(materials used, marginal fit), skill of the dentist (qualifications, experience, special interest), condition of the underlying tooth (root treated?), ect, are all players in terms of longevity.
Your gf may get 5 years from a crown (below average), or 30 years(above average)....obviously it's important to stack the odds in your favour, so take everything carefully into account, not just price. The value of the work will only really become apparent in the years to come. 500 euro crowns lasting 5 years are more expensive than 875 euro crowns lasting 15 years, if you break it down into "cost per year"?
Crowns are an investment, and should be treated accordingly. Research VERY carefully. Dental tourism tends to be a fairly emotive topic- you'll get both extremes; the people waxing lyrical about it, and the people who've been badly burnt (who tend to be less vocal because of the embarrassment).
You could get stung at home also of course, but you already know your local dentists' reputation, and equally he knows he has to uphold a good reputation to maintain his/your business. And he won't have disappeared into the dead of night if your gf runs into any difficulties in 5, 10, 15 years ;)
Best of luck with it, whatever the decision.

Sean, search previous posts on the same topic, there's varied opinions especially traveling far where "come back" should things not go as planned can be something of a nightmare. There's also many discussions here where quality of work done in eastern europe has been questioned/debated.

Ah come on lads, this has been done to death, closing this up. Yes you can go wherever you want for dental treatment. Yes some countries are cheaper ( and some are more expensive), yes some people have good experiences, yes some peoples mouths have been mutilated. Use the search function and believe nothing you read on the internet about this. Decide whether dental work is best tendered to the lowest bidder.

    Closed.
