Hi all, went to get my rent allowance in post office today and it was 6euro less than usual. Is this because of the budget or do I need to ring and check? I hate ringing the office as every time I have they're less than helpful!

Yup, this is as a result of the budget changes all right.

The tenant contribution has gone up from E24 a week, to E35 weekly.

E35 for couples, E30 for single folks.

Does that mean the lowest a couple has to contribute between them is €35 or is it each meaning €70

couple contribute 35 euro but as snubbeste said rent allowance has been decreased without a word in the papers very sly just slipped it in the new year so when peoples rents are reviewed they will be reduced even further. disgraceful

Thank you:) Our landlord increased our rent by €6 but I don't think it should have been as we pay €55 towards rent.

Also the rent decrease is ridiculous. We have to try persuade our landlord to decrease our rent by €80 while she has to pay a €100 household charge and €200 property tax...fat chance of that happening.

Our limit has been reduced from 650 to 540, thats a serious reduction to try and negotiate with the landlord!
Our landlord had agreed to sign up to the RAS scheme and is already forking out a few grand to upgrade the heating system so it will meet the BER standards required. The RAS scheme follows the same Rent allowance limits set by the social welfare so now we're not even going to be eligible for that!

Do the department write out and explain everything? Also can you just make up the difference in rent yourself, i really dont want to move this is my daughters home!! I'll try to sacrifice as much as possible to make up the extra money but they cant do this to people!

you can make up the money if you dont tell them, the department didnt write out, it was all very underhanded and sneaky
goes to show this government is worse than the last

I was under the impression that you don't have to move or seek a rent reduction immediately.

I thought it was just new entracts and people who undergoes a review who are subject to the lower limits?

Is it not the case that everyone else keeps what they are currently on?

So for a single person, if the maximum entitlement is not 475, and you have to pay 30 a week yourself (120 per month), does that mean you'll get approx. 355 towards the rent? Cheers

If your rent is above the limits set out by the dept, doing the above is fraud.
