Applying to TCD 2012

Since 2012 is now upon us, and the marathon called the Leaving Cert. has now begun in earnest, I'm wondering who else is applying to TCD for 2012?

I already filled out my CAO, placing History as my first choice. What courses is anyone else interested in?

Ah Trinity is not for you. Not with that grammar anyway. ;)

I have English with French down first and French with Spanish second.
All I need to do now is to shut myself in my room for the next four months!

You forgot a comma there and you don't seem to have a verb in your second sentence. :pac:

Their sentence wasn't wrong: the dot was because they abbreviated the word "Certificate" :P

    Missed my chance to apply.
Fairly sickened as you can imagine.
Was going for a Degree in Computer Engineering.

Aren't you able to change the CAO right up until like May or something (or are you a mature student)? I remember changing my second choice to midwifery on a whim two days before the deadline, realising my mistake the day after the final deadline and then bricking it right up until the results came out and I knew I'd gotten my first choice.

    2 questions.
Are you protestant? and do you accept the queen as your ruler?

I don't think your LC is weighed that heavily for mature applications, I think they make the decision based on interview.

Another soon to be mature student here, but I'm doing the distance learning Oscail program, History and English. As stated above the leaving cert means little when applying for a mature spot, but you must apply via the CAO by Feb 1st if applying for a full time course. The Oscail course I will be going for is applied via the college directly.

ah yeah i knew about that, its just i couldn't make the 1st of Feb deadline for my application.
I gave them a call in the admissions office and there's no chance of applying late if you are a mature student, so i'd have to apply based on my LC results, not an award i may have gotten after that.
So I'm pretty much boned till next year..

If you're going for engineering, makw sure you're willing to put up lots of crap, because so much of first and second year is completely pointless if you go into computers.
If you're hell bent on CE, I'd probably advise to go for CS instead, and you can avoid the hell of solids and structures, and inaudible lecturers talking you through subjects you don't want to do...

Is that the kind of attitude I should be expecting going to trinity cos if so I'd be a bit worried.. there was nothing wrong with their sentence

That's not a Trinity thing so much as an internet thing

No, it's not. As Lawliet says, it's an internet thing, you'll find grammar-nazis everywhere.

And just while we're here: sometimes posters here put on an arrogant/posh persona (like the one TCD supposedly has) as a joke, but people take them seriously... Just so you know, in my three years here, I have never met anyone who fits the stereotype of snobby/rich kid/posh upbringing that people always accuse TCD of having!

I hope Trinity isn't actually full of snobby/posh people...I'm a quiet person and don't think I'd enjoy having the company of those kind of people...:/

It's not, see my post above :)

It hasn't been like that for about 50 years now, people just like to slag it off. Plus, it's worth remembering that a year in TCD actually costs less than a year in UCD (if you get "Free" Fees), so the rich stereotype is out too :P

The amount of normal people far outweighs the couple of pretentious people... If anything I've come across more pretentious UCD people than TCD people

It's not actually that big a difference, but it amuses me because some UCD students like to go on about the Trinity rich-kids :P

No matter what college you go to, you pay €2000 "contribution"/"reg fee" (€2250 next year :() but each college adds on a student charge for SU membership/gym/student centre etc.

Trinity adds €85, UCD adds €155.

ah okay grand, yeah for the amounts who go there they couldn't all be snobs, same as everywhere ya go, i've just come across a lot of that kinda talk so i was wondering. People correcting other people's minor grammar mistakes is just one of the things i really cant stand, its a low blow in my eyes.. but as you say i should get used to it being on the internet ! ive got my heart set on english and film studies in trinity but its not very realistic points wise for me unforch.. what societies might yous recommend

You'll find that the people who call TCD students snobs and pretentious and stuff are the ones who don't actually go there. People in my class are dead sound.

Plus there's extra cost in UCD, like they have to pay 230 euro per repeat exam, whereas in Trinity repeats are free.
