Buying a new car looking at Audi a4 , a3, golf, passat, avensis Volvo s40, will not get a bigger engine than 1.6, recently sold my ford focus saloon which was 1.4 but still felt a bit heavy on fuel don't know that much about cars so a bit of advice on some if the above cars would bf great, id be spending between 5-6500 and year 05 and up, so I'm looking for sumting that is good on fuel and reliable that doesn't get many problems etc thanks

No manufacturer makes 100% good cars. There will always be dog vehicles, get someone who knows cars to check out any car you fancy and look around Parkers or HonestJohn for overall reliability and economy.

Passat and Avensis are too big for 1.6.

Look into hyper mileing to save money on fuel.

Do you know what fuel consumption to focus did? If u don't know then u could well. E wrong in thinking it is heavy on fuel and something else is better. Work it out and then compare to the stats for cars u are thinking of buying on www.spritmonitor.de.

1.6 in an avensis or passat will be heavier on fuel than a focus everything else being equal.

Toyota Prius? You will get an 06 for that money.

Honda is generally a very reliable brand, I have first hand experience of the Jazz and it's excellent.

The 1.6 in the Avensis isn't too bad really, much better than the Audi/VW yoke performance wise, drab enough yoke is the Avensis though.

I don't dislike them as such, they aren't a bad car at all :)

Avensis is very bland, but so are all the other cars you mention, in fact 99% of cars are, so that shouldn't colour your judgment.
