The source confirmed: “It was a big lad, but nothing near 20 stone. It hadn’t any tusks either. It wasn’t violent or aggressive. It looked more menacing than it really was. The reason why we had to take the action was because of road safety and to prevent accidents.”

he sounds very agressive and dangerous

most people aren't doubting that boar are present, because some have escaped and others have been released. people are slagging people on here making stupid statements such as "roscommon is infested with them" and then backs it up with pictures of two young bore where they are on a path with flowers blooming either side of them with the sun splitting the stones in the middle of winter:rolleyes:

There are people who doubt their existence unfortunatly. In fairness we dont know how many there are. We simply dont know should be the default position.

Indeed It goes to show that some animals are a lot more elusive than others. Ireland doesnt have a great deal of elusive animals (except the pine martin but thats on the rise bigtime). but anyone who has been hunting or working with elusive animals will tell you theres no way to know exactly how many there is.

Another place I spotted them (and reported to the wildlife trust) was wicklow's sallygap. I wouldnt only put it to jealousy I think people take the p1ss because they dont like the idea that there are creatures out there that they dont have an idea about.

I think this is the best piece of journalism I've read in a long time !!

Some of the biggest animals in the world are elusive. Grizzlys for example can be elusive. Its more matter of intelligence than size. The proof in the pudding is the fact that this creature is elusive or else it would have been caught by now.

Well, its dead and hanging in the butchers shop and its head is getting stuffed,so it wasnt THAT elusive!WB arent that elusive either, with their piggish habits of rooting up places theydo leave plenty of tracks and damage behind them. This one was shot in a chicken coop apprently.

It wasn't shot in a chicken coop , the papers got that part wrong (No surprises there). It was first seen by a lady roaming around near her chicken coop , she then reported it and it was gone by the time someone came. It was shot after being reported the second time , this time down a secluded laneway as is evident from the picture I posted.

You still need to have permission to shoot on someone's land. No matter what is on it.

You could have moved it from the "crime scene" for a more photogenic shot:)
