    Hi everyone,

Firstly apologies for my sheer stupidity but I am clueless.
    I'm a learner driver & I renewed my insurance in November 2011.
My bf is a named driver on my policy..
He got 2 penalty points for not wearing a seatbelt a few weeks ago. He hoped the guard would let him off but it arrived in the post today..

Does he need to tell his Insurance company or is it true he only needs to tell them when he is renewing his policy in June 2012?

Do I need to advise my Insurance company of this as he's a named driver under my policy? Or do I say nothing until renewal in November 2012? I'm with Aviva

Im confused, does he have his own insurance policy and is also insured on your policy as a named driver or is he only a names driver on your policy?

You must disclose any and all material facts irrespective of the term of the policy. That said, the points probably won't make any difference.... Also, the points don't exist until you receive notification of same from the RSA. So yes, tell your insurer. No, not right now.

Yes,he will have to tell his insurance company when he renews his policy.
The points are personal they relate to his licence, nothing to do with you or your policy.

He's on her policy so she needs to inform them, as something material has changed on her policy. You need to inform the company when you get the letter from the RSA, not at renewal or now.

It wouldnt be any harm to tell your insurer OP,just to keep the records straight. It wont impact your policy but Aviva for example increase the claims excess to something in the region of €1000 for non disclosure (not telling them) about penalty points accrued during the year.
