She got my 25 votes :)

    Voted.

There's no way she cannot win this as the public vote (which it looks like she will win anyway) only counts for a part of the decision.

Voted. She's fortunate in a way that the Brit vote is split three ways - Gorecka, Pallant & Bleasdale.

Huh? Crazy. Looks as if Holly Bleasdale's fan club might be onto that trick. Not that she's not a worthy candidate.

The fan vote only counts for a (i suspect small) portion of the votes deciding the award. The award is really picked by media people and 'experts'.

In truth, from a country who once had Ronnie O'Brien leading the poll for Time Man of the Century and 'A Nation Once Again' up their in Channel 4's Greatest 100 songs, we cannot complain about block voting in online polls!

I'm assuming everyone has voted for Broombridge as Best Station in the Iarnrod Eireann poll? Just has to be done. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=76294483

    (Sorry Rineanna for de-railing thread)

The online poll counts for 33.3 percent of the overall result.

Has anybody got a link to her race at the Euro XC by the way? I've still not seen it. Being in Australia has it's disadvantages.

Here is a link from the EAA website, hope it works for you. (the junior race will be the load up video but if you look underneath the video then you can choose to watch the other races, i.e. Fionnuala's triumph!!

    http://eurovision.digotel.com/ea/index.html

Here is another link just in case with an alternative camera view but not as good to watch the race, so if the above link works watch that one.

Enjoy, this is a real treat!

You can hear her Newstalk interview this evening by going to Listen back in the masthead, select off the ball and go to Tuesday part 2 at 40 mins.

    Slightly off topic.

It was great seeing Britton winning at the weekend. Great photo of her on the front page of Sunday Times, but having gone through the Irish Independent several times I cant find any mention of her win. I would have thought it merited the front page of the sport section at least, but no, picture of Clint Dempsey after scoring for Fulham in the FA Cup.

I'm a big soccer supporter and the FA Cup is a great competition but I think its disgraceful an Irish Sunday paper cant give their Sports Section front page over to home grown talent competing on the international stage.

There was a photo on inside back page and also a 2 column article elsewhere both on sports section Sunday Indo. A great win, but reserving the front page would be a bit much....if she wins on Sunday in Seville that would be a different matter.

Was driving to training on Sunday morning there and saw her running down the Ballymun Road. No rest for her

Even if she wins by a minute in Seville on Sunday you can expect an inch-long column buried in the roundup section, at best, in Monday's papers.

A very nice down to earth girl from a really lovely family, and she deserves everything she's getting at the moment. Heres hoping she has a great year after whats been a few disappointing ones for her.

Went back through the sports section there, and there's no photo on inside back page. Maybe two different editions of the paper

But I will apologise after scouring back through the paper I did find mention of it. Its tacked onto the end of an article about coaches hitting out at the AI (page 11, sports section)

That's in some ways worse IMO. She doesnt even get her own article

I don't think they needed to reserve the whole front page but they could have at least had her photo instead of an American who plays football in England.

The other articles on the front page where, Alex Ferguson needing Wayne Rooney, financial concerns for the Irish Open, and the Irish rugby teams tour of NZ.

Surely Fionnuala Brittons win could have taken the spot of any of those articles? I mean the BBC thought it was an important enough event to show live coverage & as I said the Sunday Times had her on the front page of the main section of their paper.

    Anyway rant over

Different editions I would say....I remember noting as she crossed the finish line that she didn't really smile or put her hands up and thought there'll be no photo now in the papers as there won't be a good shot. I was surprised then to see the photo in the Indo of her not neccessarily looking overjoyed as she crossed the line.

I agree the article was poor and praise of her not exactly pouring forth - in contrast the BBC commentators were gushing about her and were 100% sure she would achieve the A standard in the 5k & 10k and were also sure from early in the race that she was going to win. It is sad that the English media recognise our jewels better than us.

Is the Seville race on the BBC?
