Do nervous people make you nervous?

I was at the doctors some time ago and he was suggesting some anti depressants to help my nerves, his reasoning was that as a professional working with health, if I was nervous, it would rub off on the client/patient.
If you were in a social setting, whether that be at a work meeting, conference, lecture, or even a few pints in the local, if someone beside you was nervous would it bother you? How would you know they were nervous? Fidgeting? Swallowing lots? Sweating? Would you care?
Would your views of the person change? Would they seem more weak to you?
Personally I would be affected, I would expect the person in charge of something to exude a confidence which puts me at ease.. and I do view anxiety as a weakness. What do you think? Would love to hear your views on it.:)

Not unless I was doing something illegal with a nervous person

I'd sooner deal with a nervous doctor than one who's hopped up n goofballs and liable to have their judgement clouded.

Only if I'm travelling at speed in a car with them.

As an anxious person myself, I can readily detect anxiety and nervousness in others. I think anxiety can be spread around, like on an airplane where one or two clearly nervous passengers can make those nearby nervous as well. You think to yourself - why are they nervous? Do they know something that I don't?

On the doctor aspect, I think a distinction can be made between a cautious doctor and a downright nervous one.

A nervous person would have an effect on me, but he/she wouldn't make me nervous myself.

Nervous people don't make me nervous as long as they weren't stumped for something to say. That makes me a little uneasy.

Only when they have a weapon or a baby/child in their hands and they don't look too able to handle it.

    Otherwise live and let live.

So are there any symptoms in particular that you'ld notice that you would be able to tell if someone was nervous?

Also are there any things you use to calm yourself down?
