Picked up a cheap gaming mouse on Ebay lately. It works well apart from one issue. Every time I start the pc, it doesnt work until I unplug and reconnect the usb cable. It doesnt seem to be anything driver related, I dont get a bubble saying the device is now installed when I reconnect it. Also, its a hit and miss problem. Sometimes it will work after I start the pc, other times it doesnt!

Anyone hazard a guess as to what this could be?

    Windows 7 64bit btw.

Did you do a full spyware and virus scan that could be causing it

Yeah, the system is clean. This is the only problem I have. I had a wireless mouse whose receiver was connected to the same usb port for the last few years, and I had zero problems with that.

well if it's not working in any other usb ports send the mouse back as it is faulty

If your old mouse had drivers I reccomend you completely remove them, for example Logitech has Setpoint and Microsoft have some other program, think IntelliPoint from memory. It could also be the mouse is faulty but I'd try it in another machine first before reaching that conclusion!

Good idea, the old Dell wireless receiver would be installed still so Ill remove that. Ive tried the mouse in another laptop and it hasnt happened after half a dozen restarts so it looks like its something Windows related. If all else fails Ill return it.

If you have a wireless Dell receiver that may very well be causing the interference, try using the mouse with that unplugged and drivers removed for it. Look for Dell mouse drivers or something in add/remove programs.
