Can I watch HD movies from ITunes on my 2009 iMac?

I was looking at renting a HD movie from iTunes and watch it on my iMac (2009, 20") but when I preview the trailer it is only SD. Is there something wrong with my settings on the iMac or are the trailers always SD or can my iMac not handle HD content?

Yes, you'll have no probably watching HD movies. The trailers on the iTunes Store are always SD. For HD trailers, look here:

    www.apple.com/trailers

Thanks. One of the reasons I ask is that while I was trying this last night and not getting the HD to work, I had a look on google and found an apple support page that in addition to the latest iTunes and xx of ram etc to run HD "you will need to have components that support HDCP installed on your computer".

Apparently HDCP is some sort of copy protection but I can't find out if my iMac has it installed. I'd like to think it does but on another search I found people with more recent macs (mb pros) who are saying that theirs doesn't and they can't watch HD

HDCP is built in. You don't need to worry about it unless you are outputting to an external display or television.
