Anyone know of a place here in Ireland that repairs ECU's?

I've got an automatic Opel Astra 2001 in the garage and they told me that the ECU unit needs to be repaired. Opel would charge €1,200.
Does anybody knows of another place where I could get it repaired?

Forget about bba, if you sent them a blown bulb, theyd charge and send it back saying they found no fault.

I've had a few bad experiences with them, and havent used them for a few years.
They seem to accept any unit for "testing" and charge, then they inform that theres no fault or they cant repair.

I left the ECU unic to Peter Carey at Logic automotive. €400 + VAT, which is a lot of money to spend on such an old car....
Autokey was looking for me to bring the car to them rather than the ECU unit only. I owuld have needed to get a tow truck for that. Too much hassle.

That's so they can test everything is running correctly after repair.

can you not by a second hand ecu get it reprogrammed to your car would be cheaper any place that has a decent diagnostics can do this afriend had this done with an opel corsa and had ecu reprogrammed to match the key.

Two pins on the ECU unit on my car were damaged so the guy at Logic Automotive thinks that this problem has happened before. He thinks the pins got damaged when the unit was fitted back to the car on another occasion.
It looks like time to look for a different car....

Couldnt agree with you more Ill have to get it looked at though before could con someone into buying it!!

Im having problems now with skipping gears or just not shifting at all the steering has gotten heavy some think changing the transmission fluid might work.
Ive looked online and theres a hundred people with the same problem and each with a different fix.
Diagnostics men are laughing all the way to the bank!

+1 or better still for that age astra you could get an ecu, immobiliser and key on ebay for £50 no need for any programming just change the lot €400 is nuts for that age car.

Sorry I'm new here so didn't see it until today. Thought I'd better post so that other people searching would have the info.
You're sorted now anyway and €400 to fix a car you know is good vs. the time, stress and uncertainty of buying another used car is cheap.
