You have a Punto haven't you? The only thing de catting it will do is cost you the money in having it done.

If you want the sporty noise, then just get the back box.

    yup
i want the noise and hopefully a bit of a performance increase.... i know sounds stupid to do it to a punto but sure y not ;)

Because you won't get any extra performance, the lambda sensors will read the highly increased emissions and change the fuelling to suit, which on many unmapped cars can badly effect economy,, you may cause the engine malfunction light to come on, you will fail the NCT etc etc.

De-catting a performance car especially when remapping the ecu can give gains alright but its utterly pointless on your car IMO.

so i should just stick with a backbox
would a cheap box like this make it a bit louder? http://shop.mcgautostyling.com/parts/exhaust/black-japstyle-muffler-for-all-car-universal.html

Any after market back box will make it much louder. Most of the really cheap universal ones just make as much noise as possible, not a nice rumble.

Do some research and you'll find direct fit back boxes with various tail pipe styles(IMO, large jap style BB like the above link on a punto is just....no).

My take on modifying on a budget though is that a noisy back box would be no where near the top of the list. Wheels and suspension first is how I'd do it as an otherwise standard car with a loud exhaust just screams boy racer....even to modified car enthusiasts.

i have 50mm lowerings springs here jus not fitted yet and still lookin for a nice set of Fiat alloys to pop up for sale ;)

if you had the punto, what sort of BB would ya stick on it? all i can find is them jap style pipes:confused:

A quick ebay search shows a few direct fit back boxes for not much more then the universal ones. These will just bolt straight on and can then be removed if needed. Something like the oval tail pipe would be better IMO.

Well there is a two year warranty seemingly with them so they'll be better then the cheap universal stuff.

IMO there is one rule in modifying, cheap low quality parts make for a cheap low quality car:eek:

    sound
and could be fitted at home which is handier

i'll order one next week, spent enough on the car already haha had to buy a new ECU yday :(

what pipe diametre? 3" or 4" or does it matter at all?

The pipe diameter in the adds normally refers to the tail pipe, the pipe where it joins the center box will be the correct diameter on a direct fit box.

A 4" tail pipe is what high performance Japanese cars normally use so wouldn't suit a euro hatch back. Even 3" would be pushing it a bit but would look well if tucked nicely against the bumper.

Modifying is all a matter of taste though so what I think looks good is not any sort of fact.

IMO, this bad: max power generation, out of style, nothing works together:

This good: up to date smooth stance/euro style:

punto in the second link is class
kept nice and simple, not a fan of body kits myself anyway

that would be on coilovers aswell id imagine to get that low

i have thought of de-badging and de-locking and taking off the door bumpers aswell

de-locking is probably alot of work though :(

I'm not sure about the door strips but removing the badges and locks would mean having the holes welded over, filled and sprayed.

You'd defiantly need coilovers or airbags to get it sitting that low....and arch work too most likely.

The watch as a factory back box thats already prone to bad corrosion falls apart even faster:eek:

yea i think once i get mine 50mm lower will be low enough haha
i thought the door strips and badges were just put on with a strong adhesive?

Like I say I'm not sure about the door strips on a Punto but the badges on a MK2 are recessed into the metal and have holes behind them.

I know you've been put off the decat here but just to say I wouldn't put 50mm lowering springs on a standard shock, the car will be all over the shop. My advice would be to sell them and look for a set of coilovers, you may even see a couple of racing Puntos being broken, you could get a good second hand set.

With modifying you really get what you pay for...... unfortunately :pac:

    would 40mm be enough?

Personally speaking I'm not a fan of lowering springs, the stock damper is designed to work at a certain height, by altering the height you're compromising everything about them
