Cost to build single or 2 storey house?

    hi people new to this not sure if this right place, due to meet with architect to design house but not sure i should build bungalow or two storey around 2000sq ft, which would be cheaper build. if anyone can help thanks.

    ha if only it was that simple there's something you'll soon be discovering called 'the planning system' if your rural they will no doubt dictate the style of house your building and it can be a loosing battle to discuss the reason for a certain shape from either an energy or cost saving perspective. best of luck with your project. btw the more compact the house the cheaper and more energy efficient it can be. why not do a bit of research into low energy building, solar house orientation/ passive house design/ Zero Carbon housing etc and ask your self how much you want to spend on heating in future years, then ask your architect for their opinion..

    have been told by the council that where the site is i can just about get away with a bungalow, dormer or two storey, was just wondering if a fairly standard 2000sq ft bungalow would be cheaper than a standard two storey, or would it balance out.

    In my experience a 2 storey house will work out cheaper than the equivalent size in a bungalow.
