Fine he walked the matchplay but overall this has been a poor season by Phil's incredibly high standards. If Dolan was any use (no disrespect intended) he would've beaten Phil at the citywest. He was simply brushed aside by Chisnall at the worlds too. Would think the WC deserves this

he still topped the order of merit with over £600,000, the closest to him was Adrian Lewis on over £500,00, and i think that includes last nights winnings.

id hardly call that a poor season for a 53 years old man

As age does play a massive, massive role in darts

Age has a massive effect! Eyesight being the most obvious detrimental affect on your game and i'm sure there are plenty of other things that are affected the older you get ie aches, pains, tiredness etc. Yes anybody can get them at any age but more likely to get them as the years go on

I find it funny how people say he's had a poor season by his standards but yet his standard was so far ahead of everyone else he's still well clear of the best players around. He still won a World Grand Prix,World Matchplay, Players Championship, European championship along with a few more minor titles along the way. It's a season long accolade not just a one tournament one eg World Championship. Also don't forget a lot of people probably voted for him as he is the reason why most people play darts nowadays and it wouldn't be as much in the mainstream as it is now without his influence, a fully justified award.

All other awards were fair enough too don't think anybody can complain about them and they all well deserved

i think phil deserved that award. 3 of the big tv tournaments in 2011. MVG deserved his award as the young player of the award. justin pipe for his overall consistency on the floor events

Age has a massive effect yet Bob Anderson was a top 32 player when he was about 60, Dennis Priestley must surely also be pushing 60 and is 37 in the world and was in the prem league only 5 years ago, John Ma Gowan sure got to second round of the worlds about 3 years ago and he was incredibly old. If your eyesight is bad ya can always get glasses ;)

That's just 3 players out of probably hundreds of players that age that are/were throwing in the PDC in the early 00's. It's a rarity seeing these players.

I believe Anderson isn't playing on the PDC tour anymore as he signed up for the Legends series that was on Setanta, Mr. Magoo had to retire due to a dodgy hip and Priestley is still going and hopefully getting over his cancer battle
