G&P Sentry Review (No Discussion)

Every so often, I get the luxury of being able to afford a shiny new toy. Today, was one of those days. The result of my hard earned money (yep, Lefty actually works! Shocking, I know!) was a G&P Sentry. And I wasn't disappointed, well except for one tiny thing, but it wouldn't apply to a lot of you!

    Why the Sentry?
The Sentry is a beautifully well built gun. Everything is extremely solid and feels excellent in the hands. I picked it up a few weeks back and shouldered it, for me it was perfect, very ergonomic and easy to manipulate. The RIS system is very solid and a perfect size, no matter which way you hold it (ie, normal ways), it's just comfortable. The rifle isn't too long and it's not too short, it's a perfect lenght for both CQB and open field gaming. The finish is stunning too, which you'll see!

    The Box
Just like last time, we're looking at the box first. It's... a box, a normal, boring box with a product name and code and the usual G&P sticker (weird looking lion with sunglasses and a... cigar...), no hints at all to what the contents look like! The best thing is the bubble wrap, I'll have fun with that!

"What's inside it?" I hear you ask (well someone anyway, could be the voices), inside the box you'll find, the rifle (durr!), a mid cap mag (capacity of X BBs), then a ziplock back containing 3 rail ladders, a stubby fore grip, a very nice rubber pad for the stock and, wait no that's it!

    Isn't it lovely?

    That Ziplock Bag
Let's see, what do we have here?
3 seven inch long rail ladders, a stubby fore grip and a rubber pad for the stock!

    Railladder.jpg
Rail ladders are nice, well made, comfortable, pain in the ass to put on!

    Buttpad.jpg
Who's Victor? And why do I have his stock pad thingy?

    Foregripandtrades.jpg
Oh yeah, the rifle, forgot about that, but there's the foregrip, it's lovely!

    The Rifle
Not sure where to start on it to be honest, all of it is just lovely, the finish, feel, weight, build and ergonomics. To look at it you say "Hmm, looks fairly light", but then to pick it up, it's much lighter than you'd think - which is great, especially when it comes to balance. Obviously, like most M4 variants, it is a little front heavy, but it's not too bad!

    Bottoms Up!
Thought we'd start from the stock upwards!
    Stocktube.jpg
It's a VLTOR stock, which despite my original thoughts of it being a bit meh, I now quite like it. You can just about squeeze a 9.6V crane stock battery into it, but it is a tight fit. Victor's rubber pad, makes a little difference to it, but I like the stock without it!

    Stocktube.jpg
The stock tube is numbered and very solid.

    QDswingswivel.jpg
Then there's the ambidextrous QD sling point, which is very nice indeed, the sling loop clicks in nicely and feels very secure indeed.

    Selector2.jpg
The fire selector is obviously nothing special, but it is very solid, like the rest of the rifle. It clicks into place smoothly and securely.

    Trades2.jpg
The body pins are held in nice and solidly, the mag catch is robust and engages the mags with a positive "click!" each and every time. Like most G&P rifles the bolt cover doesn't close (for added realism apparently) but it's still very nice and the fake bolt itself is also really nice. It moves nicely with the charging handle and when the charging handle is released, the cover moves with it, but leaves enough room to access the hop. To bring it all the way home, just push the charging handle!

    RIStrades.jpg
The RIS system is very nice indeed, there is a few sharp edges, but use will wear them down. It's clamped to the receiver via 6 allen bolts and doesn't move at all!

    Rearsight.jpg
The rear sight flips up and stays solid either up or down, with a nice positive adjustment, via the turny thingy! It has a satisfying "clunk!" when deployed too.

    Frontsight2.jpg
The front sight is again a VLTOR piece, and it's very nice indeed. It has QD lugs either side for sling mounts. Like the rear sight it's very solid, either up or down. The rail on it is also flush to the top of the RIS. And like the rear sight, it also has a satisfying clunk!

    Foregripandtrades.jpg
As you can see, it's a seven inch RIS system, so it has loads of rail space for all the tacticrap you'll need! But, I've only got the fore grip and rail covers on mine! Also, the top rail of the system runs perfectly flush with the rail on the receiver!

    Flashhider.jpg
The flash hider is very nice, and when fired gives the rifle a nice "crack!"

    More to come!

Now for some glory pictures of the gun!

    Front sight trades and RIS.

Nearly all of the trades are laser engraved and as you can expect from G&P, very well defined, they really set the rifle off.

All in all the attention to detail put in to the rifle is fantastic and well worth it! It's just a solid and, well beautiful rifle - can't wait to skirmish it!

    Performance
On a 9.6V, the trigger response is very snappy and the ROF is lovely. I'll get some chrono readings and all that in the morning.

    Overall
As I said at the start, the Sentry is a beautiful gun, incredibly well built and a dream to hold. It's well balanced and there's no rattles or wobble. My one and only gripe with it, is that it has a tamiya connector, that's it! I use Deans, so that has to be changed!

    TL;DR:
    Great gun, needs Deans.

    9.5/10
