Summons for jury duty - non-resident

Apologies if this has been asked before - I'm pretty sure I can't be the only Irish emigrant who has encountered this but I can't find much info on-line in relation to my specific issue.

A summons to jury duty next month at the circuit court was sent to my family home in Ireland, however I'm currently living in the UK. I haven't lived in Ireland in nearly 5 years and had assumed that my entry on the electoral register had lapsed after the first year rather than automatically renewing - I think I confused it with the UK system where the council sends out a form yearly.

I'm waiting for the letter, etc to be posted to me by my family so I can return the form to request exclusion on the grounds of non-residency however there's no info in the letter about whether that will be accepted (maybe it's so obvious that it will and I'm worrying for nothing!). Does anyone know if this will be accepted or if I will need to provide another reason or further info?

    Thanks,
    Jack.

There is not a lot they can do if you are not resident in the state.

Same happened to me a few years back, was living in Australia at the time. My Mam just wrote back to them saying I wasn't in the country, end of. Nothing to stress yourself about.

Thanks for the responses. Tbh, they'll just have to lump it since I'm not living in the country.

I had a look around on-line regarding removal from the electoral register and eventually found the Amendment Form which also deals with deletions - a pdf of a scan (so not searchable) and there's feck all other info on-line about removing your entry from the register...slow clap for the government department dealing with the inevitable bloat...

Easy to get on the register but almost impossible to be removed.

Hilariously you are not eligible to be on the register of electors but once on it and summonsed for jury duty, non appearance will ean you are guilty of an offence unless you have (in advance) convinced the registrar that you have a good excuse not to attend. looks like a strict liability offence to me so I'd get your mother or some such to send a letter off pronto.

Non attendance is only detected if your name is actually called. You can be summonsed and never be called and many non attendances are not actually detected.
