Does anyone know if there are any bicycle shops in dingle, kerry? I've looked but can only find rental places.

Have a loose idea of trying to get a job as a mechanic for the summer months and live in the gaeltacht area to improve mine (and the O.H's) irish.
Been to area loads of times but haven't since I started cycling properly so never looked.

Short answer - no, there aren't any unfortunately. As you've said, it's rental places only (Foxy John's being the most well-known). AFAIK the nearest bike shop would be in Tralee.

Thanks for the reply, damn I would of though there would of been. I wonder if the rental shops would need a mechanic. Might email them to inquire.

Slightly off topic (as regards the bike shop) but if you really want immersion in Irish and this is the primary objective of the holiday, I'd consider a base further west like Dún Chaoin, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, Baile na nGall, An Fheothanach, srl. Granted, it might be harder to pick up work in these more remote parishes. But I'm not convinced that Irish is the lingua franca any more in Dingle town where the default for most people now seems to be English. At least that's my experience. YMMV.

Feothanach would not be the best for Irish, I'd try for Dúnchaoin or Baile an Fheirtearaigh.Time was all the scoláirí would bring bikes, but very few do now.

The rental place opposite An Cafe Liteartha has done servicing and repairs for my dad, so it is a repair shop too. Very small, though. Just one gentleman working in there.

Well I was hoping on staying in ceann tra or baile on Fheirtéaraigh stayed in these area's before. (only 12km to dingle from there so easy cycle in)

I found 4 places online that do rental bikes. but only 2 email addresses.

The first emailed me back saying they no longer do rental bikes.
The other just said they do the repairs inhouse themselves.

I'll ring up the other two places in due course (paddy bike hire and foxy john moriarty's)

An bhfuil tú in ann cupla pionta a tharraingt? Seans go mbeadh suim acú i bhFoxy Johns i bhfear beáir atá cumasach i gcursaí rothaíochta!

Cloisfeá roinnt maith Gaeilge i nDaingean fós ach déantar a lán gnó trí Bhéarla i ngach áit sa Ghaeltacht, go hairithe sa samhradh.

Is deacair a bheith ar thóir oibre (fiú obair samhraidh) faoi lathair ach gúim gach rath ort. Bheinn brea sásta buaileadh leat thíos i gCorca Duibhne nuair a bheidh mé thart le haghaidh spin agus beidh deis againn ar gcuid Gaeilge a chleachtadh le chéile.

    Ádh mór.
