Tap was dripping, so I replaced the brass fitting on the hot tap and all seemed fine. But, the drip was on the cold.
I have been trying to remove and replace the old brass fitting but I can't get it off - I have tried every spanner, socket and vice-grips that I can find.

Now I have pretty much destoyed the tap and the cold water is constantly flowing as if it it fully open.

Any ideas/tricks on how I can get the old brass fitting off?

Firstly can you not turn off the supply first? Then spray the be-jaysus out of it with wd40......

Kitchen cold tap probably means turning off the Stopcock under the sink!

    yeah - tried that.
Turning the water off at the kitchen sink turns off the supply to the tank in the attic and effectively the rest of the house.

    Loads of wd40 on it!!!

Isolation tap in the airing cupboard (hot press)?

You need to find an isolation tap, maybe in the airing cupboard, maybe in the loft on the pipe coming from the loft tank? failing all that turn off the water to the house (main stop cock), mind you. if its the cold tap then its the main stopcock . . . .

    GOOD LUCK.

I have no problem in turning the water off and off as needed - just need to get that fitting open!

Biggest spanner you can find, stillson wrench maybe?

Stillson slips on the brass fitting. Vice-grips just tears it
