    Link doesn't work!

It might give you the error code, but I think it would also depend on the year of the car if it has the LED display to do so.

    What age/model is the car?

Oh and yeah, your link doesn't work, but going to it directly takes you to a 565mb Video download?

I assume this is the self diagnostics you are talking about. (Link) It is a self diagnostic mode for the instrument cluster not the engine. It does not do a OBD (on-board diagnostics) scan, it gives you very limited information. You will need to have the engine scanned with a proper scanner to find the source of the fault.

    no here

    how much would that cost?

That depends on where you go. Dealers will charge you maybe €50-70 (rough guess) Some independents don't charge anything for just a scan.

Well it depends. All you need is an OBDII scanner and a laptop.

Pretty much the one I bought and it seems to work fine (on a 07 Focus)

What year, model and engine is your Ford? It may not be OBDII compliant.

Dealextreme are your next best bet...

    https://www.dealextreme.com/p/obdii-usb-car-diagnostic-cable-black-blue-orange-dc-12v-42827

That's actually where I got mine (paid the small bit extra to have it dispatched from the UK warehouse).

George: He said it was a 01 Fiesta.

Apologies, I missed that. I am open to correction but I don't think an OBDII scanner will work on an 01 Fiesta, only on the newer Fords.

From the quick Google I did I found that it seemed to work on an 01 Petrol Fiesta, but not any Diesel ones...

I'd take your word over mine or Google results though, you'd be more in the know than I would be. :)

Well I wouldn't take my word to be honest, I don't think I have ever tried to use a generic OBDII scanner on one because I have other scanners that work on them.

Check the fiesta to see if there is an OBD II interface on it. Im not 100% if they are on that model. Generally the interfact should be under the drivers or passenger side footwell but can be in odd place in the center console too.

Your fiesta will have an OBD2 port behind a plastic cover in the passenger side footwell. Most generic OBD scanners should plug into it no bother

And the ability to understand the possible causes of the recorded fault and decipher the live ECU data.

I had to get the diagnostics code read on my 06 focus recently at a ford dealer. It was €45.

I had a 00 Fiesta 1.25 16v in for a service this morning and tried three different OBDII tools on it out of interest and none would communicate with it. Most pre 03 Fords are not OBDII compliant in my experience.
