    Hi All,

I have 2 jobs and have been paying emergency tax on my second job since October 2011, I need to sort out why i am paying emergency tax with my second employer first but when i have done that will i be able to claim back that emergency tax through the PAYE anytime site?

A huge chunk of my pay was taken in December due to this so i just want to know how i can get my money back

    Cheers

    H

Call Revenue to see if your second job registered for taxation purposes. Then split your credits and rate band between both jobs leaving the biggest portion with the main employment. Revenue can do this for you if you tell them howucj you are likely to earn in 2012 in both jobs.

Re 2011, wait till you have both your P60's then do an online review on PAYE Anytime. If a refund is due it will issue automatically.

i have the same question only i've been on emergency tax since august in both my jobs. My wife has all our credits but she has never came near to using them up. Should i wait till i get p60 from my 2 jobs and my wife's part time job before i contact revenue. I was unsure about getting it sorted earlier as i wasn't sure if social welfare payments were calculated as part of vat earnings for the year and i didn't want to end up owing money. Cheers

Now, for 2011, yes you do need to wait til you have all the P60s.

But re this year. Your wife can have your PAYE credits, but not your personal ones AFAIK. So you should have some to use for yourself.

However, if you're registered for VAT the rules can be complex in all sorts of ways. Your accountant should be the one advising you here, 'cos it's wayyy more than a Work & Jobs query.

In that case, just call the tax office when you have all the P60's and work out what way you want to distribute the credits for 2012. 2 new tax credits sheets will be sent out to you. I think over the phone is easiest for this.
To claim back you tax for 2011, ask for a P21 for 2011 and they will give you any refund due. If it is large ask for a cheque.

You can claim your tax back for 2011 online once you have all the P60s too.

Hi Guys, sorry to dig this back up again, but i rang them and added my second job and am no longer on emergency tax :)

however they now have me on cumulative tax?

I have no idea what this is, basically on a 300 euro wage my take home was 60 euro after tax last week :(

Last time i rang i spoke with two very unhelpful people that just wanted me off the phone.. so i just thought i'd ask in here again before subjecting myself to being treated like an inconvenience

can anyone explain cumulative tax to me?

    Thanks

    H

Cumulative is the normal basis of PAYE taxation. Depending on how quick your employers are, it may take 2 or 3 weeks for it all to sort out.
You should have received a tax credit certificate about 5 working days after you sorted it with Revenue. On the cert both of your jobs should show up. If you look on the second page you will see your credits for both jobs. If you multiply the yearly credits in one job by 5, that shows how much you can earn tax free in that job for the year. Similarly, if you multiply the weekly credit amount by 5, that shows you how much you can earn weekly without paying tax.
