    After 6 years of hard slog my dell latitude d620 died a smokey death so I'm on the look out for a new laptop and would appreciate any advice.

    My max budget would be around 600 euro, anything with at least 4GB Ram and 500GB hard disk would be sufficient for my needs. HDMI and dvd writer are a must. Apart from Football Manager, I leave most of my gaming to the PS3 but I'd like to be confident that if I buy a FM game over the next few years the laptop wont have any problems running it.

    Basically to sum up I'm looking to futureproof as much as possible and get as good a run for my money as i did with the latitude.

    These 2 laptops have caught my eye;

    Any obs and/or suggestions regarding alternatives would be very much welcomed!

    Probably a slightly better graphics configuration on this HP http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/HP-Pavilion-g61220sa-156andquot-Laptop-Charcoal-Grey/309334/301, everything else much the same

    Thanks for the reply FFS.

    Ended up ordering a Dell XPS 15 with Core i5 2.4GHz processor, 4GB Ram, 500GB Drive and 1GB Nvidia GeForce graphics card.

    Its more or less the basic model though I did splash out on a backlit keyboard. With the help of some vouchers from Bargain Alerts it came in at 603e. Hopefully it'll be a good one.

    Did you get the B+RG screen? That's really the main selling point of the XPS 15. The standard screen is apparently woeful but the 1080p is the best in its class.

    Nah looks like I got the standard screen. From spec: LCD 15.6"(40 cm) HD WLED TL (1366x768) 720p.

    Just checked and adding the B+RG screen would've smashed my budget costing 200e more so I'll live with the one ordered. Cheers anyway.

    Let me know how you get on with this laptop. I'm thinking of picking up something in similar price range.

    And the cheapest I can get the model down to is 646 with vouchers from bargain alerts.

    Laptop arrived the other day. Happy with it so far. The standard screen display is ok, but I did connect it the tv last night via HDMI and really noticed the difference. Am considering doing a screen swap but will see. Overall as said I am happy with it.
