Honeymoon in Italy

    Hi there...

We are getting married in June this year and thinking of heading to italy for roughly ten days from 18th - 28th for our honeymoon.

Our plan was to head straight to sorrento but trying to find direct flights from Dublin on the 18th is pretty much not happening. Lufthansa fly but it would mean two stops before arriving at Naples and we would end up loosing the first day.

So I was thinking that we fly to maybe Venice / Rome etc and then fly on down to sorrento.

Would anyone recommend a plan of where to go first? Or suggest a better plan than I have.

    Thanks a mill

If you can't get a direct flight to Naples, then Rome is only a couple of hours away on a train, don't know about flights from Rome to Naples,

Why not spend a couple of days in Rome and ramble down on the train to Naples, get the local train then on to Sorrento or the Hydrofoil across across the bay

Just don't make the mistake I did and stay in Naples on the way. Rome to Sorrento is easily doable by train. Enjoy!

We got married near Rome then we flew to Verona.
Stayed there for a few nights. went to Venice for a day.
Then we stayed in Lake Garda and then we flew home from Milan.

are you looking for nightlife? relaxation? peace and quite? or what type of honeymoon.

You should also consider just hiring a car and have the freedom that will give you. also consider ravello and positano on the amalfi penisula - my opinion is that these are nicer.

If you want to toally get away from it all consider www.titignano.com - great place but it is VERY quiet. About 2 hours drive or so north of rome. Might be a good place to stop for a few days before heading onto Tuscany and then fly home out of one of the northern italian airports.

    Congratulations!!

I am thinking of planning a similar trip - possibly a few nights in florence / rome then some relaxation on the coast somewhere... i think a mix of city/beachy relaxation type area is nice so you might enjoy spending a few nights in rome first..

what is the name of the rail service in italy that was mentioned -- or the website for it? thanks

We kinda want the best of both worlds really...if we want to go mad we can or if we want to have a quite romantic night out out we can too.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

In Sorrento the Grand Hotel President is a great place, with a magnificent view over town, the dramatic coast line, the bay of Naples and the Vesuvius. Beautiful hotel and everything is on site, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, a green park… very relaxing and romantic.

My advice, don't go near Naples. It's a dump.
The airport is the worst organised airport I've ever had the displeasure of going through.
Sorrento is ok, the old town part is nice, but by Italian standards, it's nothing special.

Rome is to die for and you could easily stay a week there just seeing all the fantastic sights.
Venice is also beautiful and I loved going up and down the canals in the vaporettos.
You can catch a train from Venice to Rome.
You should also consider Siena for a couple of days.

Hey, myself and my girlfriend spent 5 days in Rome and 7 in Sorrento last year.

We got the train from Rome to Naples which is comfortable for the couple of hours. Then from Naples to Sorrento we got a special coach which was cheap enough, maybe 30 quid each if I remember correctly.

Depending on cash, you can hire a car through a limousine company online, which we did a few years ago as we went with another couple. Obviously that's more expensive but it suited us that year.

Naples is a kip so do not even contemplate staying there.
    Enjoy.

Can I ask when you were last in Naples? I want to go to the Amalfi coast. I am flying to Rome and was thinking about going to Siena but I don't fancy Rome, Siena then back down past Rome again. Might be too much travelling for a 10 day-2 week holiday.

So I am looking for advice for somewhere else to go which is closer. Naples seems like the obvious choice but I have heard conflicting things! :(

I was there about 7 months ago. My advice is to to give it a skip.
