Just wondering if anyone mixes going to the gym and running?? I am wondering how to go about training for a marathon and tone up without overdoing it. Ive just run a half marathon before christmas. I would only be doing one or the other on any night not both. Does anyone do this?

I was but was advised that carrying too much muscle wasn't a help to running fast. Instead I've changed my routine so I'm now doing body weight excercises. Usual session would be something like:

    Press-up
    Pull-ups
    Dips
    Abs

Pretty basic and I'm sure you could google better but it keeps me feeling strong without packing on any extra weight.

Many people look to gym work as part of their running schedule however they do this for different reasons other than toning up however there is a bit of a knock on effect.

Core work is great as you are doing body weight exercises which will benefit in terms of injury prevention and also performance. This coupled with miles should see you tone up and lose the weight

Krusty clown has a great link to a core workout in his log:

    Hope this helps
