Saddles

    Riding a bike would be so much easier if they didn't have saddles that are about 3 square centimetres in area.

    Cycling a few yards is grand, but stay on it for any length of time at all and it becomes unbearable for said arse to stay on the seat with the uncomfortableness of it.

    Why they don't have seat shaped saddles is something which puzzles me.(doesn't really)

    The saddle doesn't even spread the weight onto the cheeks, it narrows towards the front which means all the pressure is actually on the arse. The actual arse!

    Get something like this while the blood is still flowing to your junk.

    Edit: It was in AH, ok?

    Those small saddles are perfect for peddling in the most efficient cycling position. Wider, more seat-shaped ones are ok for a more upright, leaning-back position. Also, it's called a saddle, not a seat, because some weight should be on your pedals too! You may need to adjust your cycle. Afterwards, consider padded cycle shorts.

    Or, go all the way and get yourself a recumbent bicycle. Probably the most comfortable (never been on one), but I suspect that you'll get some serious hate on the roads.

    Sounds as if your bike has a saddle too small for you. Check the late Sheldon Brown's website for a description of saddles and sizing;

    +1. I've done 150miles in a day and regularly throw down 80-100mile rides everyday during the summer months. I could not imagine sitting on anything other than my skinny Flite Italia Ti Saddle.

    Too much padding will cause friction, rolling of the skin, or saddle sores.

    You'll get used to the mileage. Get a good pair of shorts. If need be, get some chammy creme, like Assos.

    Buy yourself a Brooks saddle.
    I have a B17 Champion Standard. I am using it on the third bike I have owned. It is the last word in comfort. Trust me.
    Once you have broken it it in, it will be a very comfortable ride.
