    Hi
My other half has aquired a Fuji 645zi for absolute beginner photography class. No instructions, no SD card, battery charger etc with it. It comes on and flashes up 'E' on the rear display so it's looking for something?

Anybody know what card it takes, where the battery is and what charger to use? I also can't find any slots on it.

It takes a card known as "120" medium format film. There are no SD card slots on it.

It isn't a digital camera. It uses medium format film and produces negatives that are 6cmx4.5cm big (hence the 645 name).

It's a really good, amazing point and shoot medium format camera that will produce great results.

The "E" on the back means there is no film in it. There is no charger for it as it takes small batteries like 2CR2 or CR123 batteries. The fact the E is showing up means there are batteries in the camera.

This thread made me giggle!!! :)

Thanks for that. That'll teach me to fire up google before posting dumb questions. I know zip about cameras (and it shows).

Looks like a very nice piece of kit indeed. I've downloaded the manual and even opened the back. Now to find a source of 120 film. I see it also takes 220 film..discontinued?

Way off the mark for a ladies camera course tho.

    I might take it on.

If you can make it to Gunns in Wexford Street, Dublin 2 they'll sort you out with the film and even load it for you. There is a nak to loading 120 film. 220 is effectively the same film as 120, same size spools etc... It's just double the length of 120 (so you get twice as many frames/photos per roll.

The Fuji 645 are really good cameras. Good optics/lens, good exposure meter and being medium format the image quality from the negative is great.

It's whats known as a rangerfinder (what you see through the viewfinder is slightly off to what the camera will see). They were very simple to use because they could be used as a simple point and shoot or (I think) they have fully manual controls as well. It's easy to get top quality results from a really easy to use camera like the Fuji 645.

Don't let it sit in a drawer for years unused. I wanted to buy that camera about 12 years ago but couldn't afford it. It's still on my hit list of cameras to get.

Just get a roll of Kodak Portra 400 or Portra 800 in 120 format and throw it in. It's colour film so you can just get it developed in Gunns and they'll scan the negatives for you so you have digital files to work with, so not entirely useless for a digital photography course if they are going to do some photoshop/editing on the course. I'd recommend going with the Kodak Portra 800iso film as its so dark here this time of year.

It's a great camera. Put it to some good use!

If making it into Gunns is not an option for you then try here: www.thephotoshop.ie. Plenty of 120 films in stock.
