Ok the title more or less says it all. A friend of mine who had been on the Jobseekers allowance recently went working in the USA and I was told that he got a 6 month Visa and a job through Social Welfare, im curious as to whether or not this is true.

    Anyone heard of this?

I doubt very much that is true. Its near impossible to get a visa for the states unless you are sent via your company or win the green card lottery.

You would also need to be highly skilled.

I have seen Irish pubs from Boston advertising on jobs.ie and looking for the staff.

They were organizing the working visas but I just don't remember which type was it.

Never heard about Social Welfare dept organizing any working visas though

Yes, surprisingly there is an obscure hospitality visa. Ri Ra come over to Ireland every year and recruit Irish people for working in their bars. I think it's actually a "training" visa.
