    Hi,

The other day out of nowhere when I started my GR it straight away cut out, it took 4 or 5 restarts before it actually stayed lit. Its doing it all the time now and today it cut out as I was coasting into my driveway so Im very concerned now.
I also noticed that it seems to be idling lower than usual.
I brought it to a mechanic and he restarted the computer in the hope that it might sort it out but it hasnt.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

The GR is the non mivec V6 isn't it iirc?

You could be looking at a vacuum leak or an aac/idle control valve issue.

Yep, non mivec V6 it is.
Is an aac/idle control valve the same as a stepper motor?

Yes many idle control valves use a stepper motor, off the top of my head I'm not sure if your car does....I presume it does if you mention it.:)

Do you think it'll be an expensive fix?

TBH its impossible to say without knowing the actual problem.

If it is the idle control valve, it may only need a clean or it could need replacement, then you could get a new part or a second hand one so price varies vastly.

Good guide to stepper motor here they're a very common problem on the v6, Earlier ones are brown coloured and can be cleaned out, newer ones are black coloured and sealed, but given that yours is a gr and not a gx it's probably the older type

Camskill do them, or there's a good few established members on www.fto-Ireland.com that have some used ones.
