Guilty about being sick.

My head has been annoyed the past week.

I have been very sick for the first time in about 5 years and all I am doing is obsessing and worrying about going back to work rather than concentrating on getting better.

I have a very responsible job in a college where I support a number of lecturers. I work really hard and have never been off sick before.

Everyone says I am being ridiculous that if your sick your sick. I have been to the doctors and I have been on ABs but I just feel that I can't relax and get better as I am worrying about work. The doctor has asked that I come back to see him again this week to see how I am doing.

I usually would be going into work with flu/cold etc as I am a die hard but this illness over Christmas has knocked the crap outta me.

I know I am being ridiculous but I need people to tell me that I am!!!

    Thanks

If you never went in again they've have forgotten you by next week, nobody is indispensable.

The lecturers can do a bit of extra work for themselves after their nice long Christmas break which many jobs don't have

It's just a job, now look after yourself

    yip..

I agree, nobody is indispensable,. maybe since your off they will realise how much work you actually do :D

and since you have never been off sick before and have a cert you have absolutely no need to worry at all.
Your health is your wealth so relax and get better!!

You're sick for the first time in 5 years, you have a right to take time to get better.

I bet those lecturers don't appreciate you. I work in a college myself and academics rarely appreciate support staff. Not all colleges are the same but the one where I work treats support staff like dirt and you could work yourself into the ground and they'd still want more.

You are being ridiculous. If you go back to work sick like you have before you'll be expected to work at full capacity and if your college is anything like mine you're probably doing more for less money these days. All the more reason to stay out and recover fully, take your doctor's orders and only go back to work when the doctor says you're ready, NOT before.

Look after yourself and your health because nobody else will. Academics rarely care about support staff, you're just there to do their bidding, they get paid about 10 times as much as you and in my college some of them don't see support staff as being fully human. Cop on and look after yourself.

Yep, nobody is indispensable... not wanting to get morbid, but if you had been hit by a bus, they would manage without you.

Take as much time as needed before going back.. once you're back, you're back, and expected to get on with it!

Relax, take time to get better - they will survive! I also work in a busy university and one of my colleagues does the same as you - comes to work with flu and all sorts......it annoys everyone so much. We don't all want to be exposed to his germs. In the end the boss asked him to stay home when sick as it was causing loss of productivity in the lab as everyone kept catching his bugs! So just relax.....people would much rather you stay home when sick :)
