MacBook Pro connection to TV

I have a mid 2009 MBP which I am trying to connect to a new LG 32LV450U which I recently bought.

I have a minidisplay to HDMI cable and a 3.5mm jack for sound.

I've connect the minidisplay to the HDMI port and the 3.5 jack into the red and white ports (called AV2 on the back of the TV).

The problem I am having is that I have picture but no sound from the HDMI input. The sound is running through the AV2 port but the HDMI doesn't seem to recognise it. (I've tried all three HDMI ports too).

I have another TV in the house, a Philips, and it works no problem.

Any ideas how I can get the sound working?

    Anything in the tv settings?

The television may have a specific sound input for video coming from a DVI source, such as a 3.5mm phono connection. Have a look on the back of the television. When this is the case it usually has to be used with a certain HDMI port. Do you still have the television manual?

I've gone through all the TV setting and I can't find anything.

On the other TV there is a specific HDMI port which is twinned with a red and white sound input, but on the LG there doesn't appear to be any.

I've downloaded the full manual from the website but it does really offer any help:(

Page 85 of the manual: "Connecting to a PC". You'll need a 3.5mm jack to jack for the audio using HDMI 1 for the video input.

    Hope this helps.

Yep just looked at that and wondered where the AV2 and red and white ports came in! Only later MacBook Pros could output audio through mini display port

Is your connection section as per page 85?
